Put A Pin it!
September 26th, 2011Here’s another project that I recently finished for work. I wanted to play off a DÃa de los Muertos aesthetic but interpret it in a new way. Foam-core was used for the base and standard sewing pins to created the larger image. After that, I used bright thread to fill in the rest of the piece.
I love how it turned out and I have so many other ideas I can’t wait to try this technique on! This first one was quite ambitious and terribly time consumming but I learned some valuable tricks along the way. I’ll be sure to share more projects soon!

Hi Lisa! I think it took me about 25-30 hours to complete this project. A lot of late nights in front of the tv and several mishaps of dropping all my pins into my shag carpet :p heehee Thanks for the comment!

Usually this is done with nails hammered into a piece of wood, but I bet this method is much quieter and cheaper! Looks good.

Oh my goodness, my husband has been talking about making something like this covering an entire wall. He’s thrown out the idea of a dia de los muertos skull but keeps hesitating about the effort needed to finish! Such a wonderful job!
