2012 DIY Oscar Party!

Thursday, February 9th, 2012

I’m so excited to share my Oscar printables for this year! I wasn’t sure if I was even going to do them but I’ve been getting a ton of requests for them and I got really excited about updating the set. The theme this year is black, white, gold and kraft paper. I know, super original, but I think the design is a playful mix of formal and slightly rustic hints.

This year’s entry  contains invites, paper oscar statuettes, popcorn boxes, drink tags and of course ballots; everything you need to throw a red carpet party in style! Oh, and I finally put together an “Oreo Cake” that I’ve been obsessed with since I saw it the Martha Stewart 2010 September issue. Tasty, but mighty dangerous indeed!

OSCAR INVITATION
This simple invite gets some glamour when paired with a black string & button envelope. Add a little extra fun by hinting at the Oscars and addressing the envelope with the title “and the invitation goes to…”

PAPER OSCAR STATUETTES
I didn’t know if this idea was going to work but I knew I wanted to create a three-dimentional form of the oscar somehow for the decorations and table setting. These turned out to be far easier than I ever anticipated and added the perfect amount of Oscar spirit!

POPCORN BOXES
What movie night would be complete without popcorn? I couldn’t resist, so these popcorn boxes can be printed and folded together to complete the scene. I filled cellophane bags with homemade popcorn, then tied them off with b&w ribbon and placed them into each box. You could easily skip the bag and just fill the boxes with popcorn too.

DRINK TAGS / PLACE CARDS
These simple tags play double-duty as both drink tags and place cards at a table setting. Simply print, cut and secure by interlocking the provided adjustable slots. Write in guests name in advance or let them do it themselves when they arrive.

OSCAR VOTING BALLOTS
Last but not least, every Oscar party needs a voting ballot! I recommend sending these out with the invitation or having guest arrive early in order to have time to vote for who they think will win. It’s a fun way to get everyone engaged and enlists some competitive spirit.
Tally up the results and finish the night by awarding the player with the most correct votes a movie themed prize or an Oscar Statuette!

I hope some of you are planning an Oscar party this year and perhaps some of these printables will come in handy. I’m excited to see who’ll win and I have my fingers crossed for the Artist to take Best Picture. If you haven’t already seen it, I highly recommend it. It’s by far one of the best films I’ve seen in awhile and such a cute story!

You’re Invited!

Monday, February 7th, 2011

The 2011 Oscars air on February 27th this year and I couldn’t be more excited! I’m a huge movie fan and grew up in a family that celebrated film and television. Consequently, the Academy Awards were always a big deal to us. My parents even named our cats Oscar and Emmy!

Last year, I created a downloadable Oscar suite that included printable party invitations, ballots, envelope liners, popcorn bags and candy toppers. I’ve been getting quite a few requests for an updated 2011 version so, with out further ado, here they are! Each PDF includes instructions and if you need more information, please see my original posts here and here.

OSCAR INVITATION & ENVELOPE LINERS
Set the tone for the party to come with these printable Oscar Party Invitations and envelope liners.

OSCAR BALLOT
Play along while you watch! Have guests arrive early to fill out the ballot ahead of time for who they think will win. At the end of the evening, tally up the score to see who guessed the most right!

POPCORN BAGS
What are movies without the popcorn? Serve individual portions by printing the template directly onto white paper bags, line with glassine bags to prevent butter stains and fill with movie popcorn! Both the paper and glassine bags can be found in my Etsy shop here.

CANDY BAG TOPPERS
Of course you can’t have the popcorn without the candy! Dress sweets up by arranging in cellophane bags and topping with red and white stripped toppers. Arrange it all on an old fashioned candy tray and pass it around to all your guests. Learn how to make a candy try here.

Oscar Party Recap

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Here are a few pictures from my Oscar party last Sunday. We had some good friends over and it was a ton of fun! I got the idea for the hello cheese tags from Real Simple: Celebrations and my hubby whipped up a batch of “Na’vi Nectar” as a fun drink. The ballots were a huge hit as were the Oscar Bingo Cards from How About Orange. Everyone had a great time and I’d like to give  a big ol’ thank you to Dove Visibly Smooth for sponsoring the event!

I’m heading to Las Vegas this weekend to attend my sister Gena’s wedding (yay!) If you have any suggestions on what to do while we’re there I’d love to here from you in the comments.

DIY Oscar Party Part II

Friday, February 26th, 2010

★ Update! A 2012 version of Oscar printables (including an invitation and ballot) is now available. Check out the full post here!
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

As promised here is the rest of the goodies for the DIY Oscar Party! I thought a candy tray would be a fun way to serve your guests and what Oscar party would be complete without a ballot! Mine are designed to let guests make their predictions and keep track during the ceremony. There is a place on the back to record the final score to help you pick a winner if you’re awarding a prize. Also note, not all categories are represented due to space constraints.

Candy Bag Toppers Download
Fill 3 5/16″x5 1/8″ cellophane bags (buy) with candy and staple in the center. Print out candy bag toppers onto solid sticker paper (found at office supply stores), cut to size, fold in half the long way and affix toppers to cellophane bags. Don’t have sticker paper? Just print onto cardstock paper and affix with double-sided tape.

Candy Tray
Inspired by the candy girls at Alt, I thought a candy tray would be a perfect touch to the party. All you need is a white tray and a length of red ribbon. Tie the ends of the ribbon together. The knot should rest behind your neck and the ribbon should go under the front of the tray. Then just fix the ribbon in place with strong tape or thumb tacks!

Ballot Download
Print double-sided onto 8.5×11″ card stock and fold in half length wise. Coordinate with red pens.
